THANK YOU ALL VOLUNTEERS WHO CAME TO HELP YESTERDAY! Approximately 300 people showed up to help the survivors of the Tea Fire shore up the mountain on Sunday. Over 4,000 sand bags were made up and delivered to homeowners on Mountain Drive, the Riveria and Mission Canyon. The MDCA purchased 27,000 feet of “silt fence” and 19,000 feet was delivered and installed on Sunday.
THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS! Many local businesses came to the aid of the volunteer effort. Here is a list of the sponsors who came through for us on Sunday:
Hayward Lumber, Marborg, Rusty’s Pizza, Trader Joes, Pizza-Mizza, Chipotle, Little Alex’s, The Mesa Pizza Company, Dominoes, Starbuck’s Coffee.
SPECIAL THANKS TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS! The Red Cross was unbelievable. A Staff of 12 all day, 200 lunches, refreshments…unbelievably helpful. Thank you so much! Also thanks to the SALVATION ARMY for providing additional food for the volunteers.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY SAVES THE DAY! Salud Carbajal is a TITAN. From coordinating emergency sand deliveries to making sure there was coffee for all the volunteers, he was everywhere with the help of his SB County team: Special thanks to Rick Tomasin for his tireless efforts in supplying us with sand and sandbags.
DAS WILLIAMS DELIVERS SANDBAGS TO FIRE SURVIVORS IN HIS PRIUS. The City of SB, not to be outdone, had City Councilman Das WIlliams delivering supplies to workers in his little hybrid. Way to go!

Ms. Lee Wardlaw Jaffurs, local author of more than 25 books for children and young adults, lost her home in the 1977 fire and came within 1/4 mile of losing her home to the Tea Fire. Her novel, Corey’s Fire, tells the story of a 14-year-old girl losing her home and neighborhood in a Santa Barbara firestorm, and has won many awards, as well as has been used as a therapeutic tool by both the Oakland School District and the Santa Barbara/Goleta School Districts after the Oakland and Painted Cave fires.
Ms. Jaffurs is donating copies of Corey’s Fire to any parents of children in grades 5-9 who were victims of the Tea Fire. Please email her at author@leewardlaw.com.
This website is, first and foremost, intended to coordinate aid to the many families who are victims of the Tea Fire. Bryan and I are working feverishly to bring up the site, structure all of it’s content, and make it available to the public.
Even before the proverbial dust settles on this website, please begin using it IMMEDIATELY. Go to the Tea Fire Relief section, log in and post information about your situation. Be sure to post your contact information. We recommend a web based email, so that your friends and family can get in touch with you.
Thank you.
